We’re all fighting for something. We’re fighting to stay alive, to change someone’s mind, or just for the life that we always wanted. Rachel Platten dreamed of being a professional musician, getting a record deal, and having the reach to inspire people with her music. After many years of trying to get through to people in the music industry and trying to build a fanbase, she wrote about her struggles in a song we all know as “Fight Song”. Now, 2 million downloads later, she has done that, and she’s finally headlining her own tour.
Last night, Platten performed her first of two nights at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles to a packed sold-out house. As her music is so universal, so was her audience. We were surrounded by families (two toddlers were right behind us), groups of teenagers, couples in their 30s, and patients she had connected with at the local L.A. hospitals. Even crazier, these fans were diehard. The kids were screaming, the couples were swaying together, and many people had signs like they were trying to get noticed in the Staples Center. Rachel Platten was finally getting the attention she deserved and worked so hard to earn, and this attention only took one year to happen.
