Playboy Playmate Dani Mathers Is Charged For Body Shaming
Dani Mathers’ Victim Came Forward
Recap Of The Situation
You might remember the story of Dani Mathers, Playboy Playmate of the Year 2015, who used Snapchat to photograph an unclothed woman, reportedly in her 70s, at her gym back in July. Mather’s wrote a caption underneath the photo, “If I can’t unsee this, then you can’t either.” This story went viral in July 2016.
Mathers later said she posted the image by “accident” and it was meant for a private conversation between she and a friend only. Regardless of this weak effort, her actions sparked outrage and LA Fitness, the gym where Mathers took the image, immediately banned her for life. Executive Vice President of LA Fitness, Jill Greuling, called Mathers’ behavior “appalling”.
Until now, police were unable to move forward with criminal charges because the victim was not yet identified. The victim would have to come forward and agree to press charges against Mathers before the city could do anything. Well, that the woman was identified in September and guess what? – She is willing to testify against Mathers. (She still has not been publicly identified, let’s give hre that privacy)
Could Dani Mathers Receive Jail Time?
Today, Friday, November 4th Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer filed charges against Ms. Mathers stating that these charges are “a matter of character and humanity.” Dani is charged with one count of invasion of privacy. This charge is a misdemeanor, but if convicted, Mathers could face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Arraignment is scheduled for November 28 in Department 48 of Los Angeles Superior Court.
“Body shaming is humiliating, with often painful, long-term consequences. It mocks and stigmatizes its victims, tearing down self-respect and perpetuating the harmful idea that our unique physical appearances should be compared to air-brushed notions of ‘perfect.’ What really matters is our character and humanity,” said Feuer. “While body-shaming, in itself, is not a crime, there are circumstances in which invading one’s privacy to accomplish it can be. And we shouldn’t tolerate that.”
While she is not a violent or dangerous criminal, the city attorney feels it is important to charge her and to send a message. Hopefully a judge agrees. Read the complaint here.
Mathers is reportedly represented by attorney, Tom Mesereau, known for the 2005 Michael Jackson child molestation case.
So it looks like there will be a rumble after all, folks!
What do you think? Should Dani Mathers face jail time for her actions?
