The Winter Olympics are over but there was plenty of in-competition romance warming up the events. From lusty Italians romancing the audience on the ice, to the Canadian snowboarder dating a rival country’s top athlete, learn more about those duos that became the epitome of #CoupleGoals.
Ondrej Hotarek and Anna Cappellini, Team Italy Figure Skating
When they hit the ice rink in Pyeongchang, Hotarek and Cappellini didn’t have eyes for each other, since this besotted couple danced with different partners. Italian-Czech Ondrej and Italian Anna were on the Olympics as part of Team Italy, but the married duo made the decision to keep work and play completely separate.
Even though this was their MO during the competition, their social media told a different story filled with nothing but regular proclamations of love – and photos of their beautiful wedding in 2015.
Happy birthday to my amazing wife, today has been extremely hard, I admire and love you everyday. So proud… Now it's gonna be pretty impossible for me to find a better present than personal best score…hahaha #happybirthday #mywife #perfect #love Buon compleanno Anna, ti sei fatta regalo perfetto oggi, che orgoglio… Unico problema adesso e… E io cosa ti regalo😝😛? #impossible #regaloperfetto #bestdayever #italiateam🇮🇹
Jamie Anderson, Team USA, And Tyler Nicholson, Team Canada Snowboarding
There was no pair more photogenic than these North American athletes. Team USA snowboarder Jamie Anderson, 22, and Canadian board megastar Tyler Nicholson, 27, were a vision of blue eyes and graceful blond locks.
Anderson, who won a second Olympic gold medal in Slopestyle, said that her partner has being nothing but supportive and plays a big part of her life. “We push and train with each other. Makes it that much more fun,” said the gold medalist. The pair first met in Canadian skiing mecca Whistler and became really good friends before cupid hit them with the arrow of love.
Penny Coomes and Nick Buckland, Team Great Britain Figure Skating
A romance against all odds. The British-based couple competed together for the third time at a Winter Olympics. The duo had to overcome a damaging injury to Penny’s foot that almost saw their career crumble, but under the proper guidance and coaching, they managed to rebuilt their routine. They met on the ice in 2005 and fell in love. You can totally feel the romance just by looking at their adorable Instagram pics.
Marie-Jade Lauriault and Romain Le Gac, Team France Ice Dancing
This powerful French duo skated with other partners before finding in each other’s arms in 2014. By 2015, the duo got married, an event that impressed many since both of them had said that they never wanted to date an ice dancing partner. But the love and passion ended up being too strong to ignore. She is a native Canadian, but became a French citizen in December 2017.
