Messy Place, Messy Mind – Best Ways to Declutter

There are some people who operate quite well in a cluttered environment, but there is a chance that you’re not one of them, especially if you’re here reading this. One thing to note is that there are many people who don’t know that they’re unable to function properly in such an environment, and the difference is night and day once they start organizing the world around them.

You can’t control everything, obviously, but there are some things that are within your control such as your home, the room you inhabit, your desk at work, and perhaps a half dozen other places that you didn’t think of. We’re going to go over a few ways you can declutter your life, and a few places you can practice it.

Step 1: Get Rid of the Clutter

Take a look at your space; do you have a lot of things that you simply don’t need? If so then it’s definitely time for you to start decluttering. We recommend by starting with these items whether they’re old pictures, office supplies, or simply junk that doesn’t work anymore. Sometimes it can be difficult to part with items, even if they’re virtually useless to you, but you need to sever that attachment and get down to business- the business of uncluttering your mind.

Step 2: Evaluate your Space

What sort of space are you decluttering? Is it your office? Is it your home? Is it your car? Take a look around, determine what is out of place, and then try to make a plan- a plan to get the mess under control.

Step 3: One Step at a Time

The biggest mistake that people make when they are trying to clean their space is taking it all on at once. Instead of looking at the big picture right off the bat, it would be a good idea for you to start taking on small portions of your clutter, ensuring that you’re making those small parts perfect before you move on to the next, smaller part. As you take on small chunks of your cleaning tasks, you’re going to find that eventually, the entire thing is taken care of.

Step 4: Keep it Organized

In taking it on one piece at a time, you’re going to get better results, but you must also keep in mind that you need to organize after the fact if your cleaning efforts are going to stick. Create a labeling system, store like items in the same space, and most importantly, keep your space clear of clutter. It might sound like an insurmountable task, but you can trust us when we say it doesn’t have to be that difficult. Be vigilant, stick to it, and most importantly, follow through. Your space will be clean before you know it.
