McDonald’s unveils a brand new type of hamburger!
I must admit, I haven’t stepped foot inside a McDonald’s in over a decade. As a child, I went almost every week with my grandparents and got a Happy Meal like so many thousands of kids across America. This was a simpler time and I suppose we weren’t so focused on healthier food back then. I always ordered the same thing: the ubiquitous cheeseburger, fries and an orange drink. Yet, I was more interested in the prize than the food.
McDonald’s has not been known for exactly being healthy fare. In fact, their French fries were originally cooked in beef tallow and they are still the largest purchaser in the world of beef and pork. They are also the second largest buyer of chicken. But as times change, so do fast food chains. What worked a few decades ago, may not necessarily be what today’s generation wants.
With so many now concerned about their health, the welfare of animals, and the environment, McDonald’s is now jumping on the vegan and vegetarian bandwagon. They are currently testing a vegan hamburger in Scandanavia!
The new burger, aptly called “McVegan”, was launched on October 4 in Finland. It is made of a soy patty rather than a beef patty, “McFeast” sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles all on a sesame seed bun! The “McFeast” sauce is also vegan and this hamburger will not come with cheese on top.
McDonald’s is going to test run the McVegan burger until November 21, then they will evaluate its findings. Sources say that the feedback so far has been positive. Also, the fries are now 100% vegan!
Several people have traveled to Tampere (where the McVegan is being served) to try this new hamburger. A fan on Instagram said, “After boycotting McDonald’s for 20+ years I had to try the new #mcvegan…really good.” And another fan said, “Who would’ve believed? McD selling vegan burger. Quite good to my taste.”
What do you think? Will you be trying the new McVegan burger at McDonald’s? I would definitely pay a visit to the Golden Arches for a McVegan burger, fries and drink!
