Jennifer Aniston is ready to be back on TV! Apple has given a two season order of 20 episodes to the series about a morning show drama, starring Aniston along with Reese Witherspoon as the series leads.
The two stars will also be executive producers on the show. The story will follow Aniston and Witherspoon as the hosts of a morning show and it will explored the larger New York media scene they’re a part of.
The new drama is based off an original idea by Michael Ellenberg, former head of drama at HBO, and CNN’s Brain Stelter’s book “Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV”. “House of Cards’” Jay Carson is attached to write the script and will serve as the series’ showrunner.
The show will be a reunion of sorts, since as “Friends” fans will no doubt remember; Witherspoon played Aniston’s little sister, Jill Green, on two episodes of the hit sitcom back in 2000.
The Oscar winner talked about her guest-starring role in the iconic TV comedy back in 2011. “I just had a baby [daughter Ava, now 18] and I could not stop watching ‘Friends’,” Witherspoon said. “I was super duper excited y’all!”
“In all my enthusiasm, I completely forgot something crucial … I had never been on television [or] in front of a live audience ever in my entire life,” Witherspoon said. “And I panicked! I totally froze!”
Fortunately, Aniston gave her some wise advice. “[She said], ‘You’re going to make a mistake and you’re going to flip your line and whatever — and the audience is going to love it,’” the “Walked the Line” star recalled. “‘Don’t try to be perfect, just try to be yourself.’”
Witherspoon eventually got over her TV fears and this year the actress and producer won an Emmy for Best Limited Series for HBO’s “Big Little Lies”. Meanwhile, Aniston has being making movies non-stop and hasn’t starred on a TV show since “Friends” ended in 2004.
