How to Ground Yourself When the World’s Gone Mad

In a world that’s filled with chaos and turmoil, it’s becoming increasingly important to stay grounded. But what does it mean to “be grounded”?

Being grounded can mean different things to different people. It could mean that you’re making the most of the present without worrying about the past or future. Or that you feel firmly in control of your life with your energy grounded in your body.  It can also mean exploring your spirituality and understanding yourself better.

Here are a few ways to achieve this sense of being grounded no matter what your circumstances may be.

Take a Deep Breath

You can start becoming more grounded by doing something as simple as learning to control your breath. When you are stressed out or anxious, your body tenses up and your breathing becomes shallow. This kind of light breathing can aggravate symptoms of anxiety. It is important to let your body relax, so your mind can relax.

When you’re starting to feel stressed out, take a full, deep breath, inhaling all the way down into your stomach.  Breathe in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth. Take your time with each breath and be mindful as you do this. Deep breathing helps calm your mind and allows your body to relax.

Immerse Yourself in Nature

Take a break from the hustle and bustle of life by going for a walk or reading a book outdoors. This can help you connect with something larger than yourself and remind you that there is more to life than your woes and worries. It provides a much-needed respite from your busy life. Being surrounded by nature and soaking in the sights and sounds has a soothing effect on your mind, body, and soul.

Get Moving

There’s probably nothing better for your physical health than exercise. But beyond its many health benefits, it also has a positive effect on your mind. Taking care of your body has a grounding effect and helps you feel calmer and more at ease with yourself.  Even better, take your workout outdoors to heal your body and soul.

Be Present In the Moment

Take a few minutes out of your busy day to simply sit still. Close your eyes and feel the air move around you. Observe what you hear and smell. Try to focus on the moment and stop your mind from wandering. Remind yourself that you’re doing just fine and you’re at peace with the world around you.

Being grounded will allow you to feel stable, secure, and in control of your destiny. It will help you face your life instead of running from your problems. Taking the time to work on being more grounded will help you face any challenges that come your way.
