Give Yourself the Gift of Good Skin this Season with Petra Medi-Spa!

Self-care is important this season to keep you looking and feeling your best!

It’s hard to believe, but the holidays are officially here. And you’re probably shopping, attending parties and visiting friends and family, right? Well, by now, you just might find yourself getting a little run down. Maybe one of your resolutions for the new year should be self-care.

Self-care is the ultimate gift you can give yourself no matter what time of the year it is. By taking care of yourself, you look better, feel better and are re-energized. This is the only way you can give more to others. So, be the best version of yourself because you deserve it and others around you do too.

We spoke to skincare expert, Astrik Agamalyan, at Petra Medi-Spa, about her thoughts on self-care, especially during the stressful holiday season:

Astrik, you believe in the motto, “Invest in yourself-your skin will thank you later.” Tell us about your philosophy regarding the importance of self-care, especially during the holidays?

One of my core principles is preventative care. Any time is a great time to start taking care of your skin. I guess the best time is when you are ready.

It’s when you feel like you need a “pick me up”, when you feel like those lines around your eyes and between your eyebrows are getting more and more defined, and you’d like to soften them. It’s when you feel like you’ve developed wrinkles and pigment like most of us do from years of exposure to the sun. Or it’s time when you feel like your neck is sagging and your lips are shrinking.
Basically, it’s when you are ready to make yourself feel better, more youthful and rejuvenated.

If this sounds like you, then now is the time to start. We usually make some type of New Year resolution, right? Make this one yours!

What are some new procedures that women are most interested in today and why?

One of the newest procedures we offer is the Aqua Gold fine touch futuring, 24K gold plated, hollow needles with spiral-like micro channels.
This delivers a customized cocktail individually tailored for each person’s skin because everyone’s skin is different.

Genesis laser treatment

The cocktail may include Botox, HA fillers, stem cells, skin lightening products, enzymes and much more. This treatment may be combined with the Genesis laser to minimize pores and help with rosacea and melasma. The Botox is used to improve the lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet and forehead.
Dermal Fillers will improve the smile and marionette lines.

In your opinion, what are the most effective procedures that you provide your clients and which ones do you think they will see the most beneficial results from?

Botox and Dermal fillers are quick and effective to lift heavy eyes and to soften smile lines. Often, I hear from patients who said their families saw great improvement on their face. They looked younger and relaxed, but the relatives couldn’t pin point what made them look so refreshed! And that is the best compliment.

Botox. Marking with AccuVein for blood vessels to prevent bruising.

However, for some people who need textural improvement, I would start with a fractional CO2 laser resurfacing treatment. This will improve the texture of the skin, minimize large pores, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles and help with the elasticity of the skin.

In addition to one-time procedures, what do you recommend for long-term maintenance on your client’s skin?

Just like we maintain our hair and nails, skin needs maintenance as well. I would recommend dermal infusions once a month to detoxify the skin, help with lymphatic drainage and exfoliation. This procedure has no downtime.

Also, it’s very important to protect the skin from the sun by using appropriate sun block and to use skin care products depending on what someone’s skin may need.

We carry products that are great for melasma, rosacea, acne prone skin, aging skin and more.

This season the weather is harsh with colder temperatures and drier air. What are some helpful tips for the holidays that you recommend for skincare?

When the air outside is cold and dry, the water in the skin evaporates quicker. This makes your skin feel dry, itchy and flaky which, in turn, may exacerbate eczema and other skin conditions.

Apply body lotion and hydrating facial creams. We offer oxygen infusion facials with hyaluronic acid. Masks are great and we carry aloe vera, gold
and HA masks.

In addition to owning your own business, you also have a family. How do you balance both? And do you feel like you had to give anything up to grow your business? If so, what was it and has it been worth it?

Fortunately my daughter is old enough to be independent. She is a young adult, preparing for BSN to MSN program. She is helping me in the business, learning and gaining experience.

My husband has a business and busy schedule as I do. Sometimes we work together on certain projects.

We all love spending time with each other, so we always find time to be together. We enjoy getting out of town for short trips, gem and art shows. I love making jewelry in my free time.

If you had one word of advice regarding overall skincare, what would it be?

Prevent and maintain, these two go together.
