Glamorous Gothic
In honor of Halloween, today I am sharing with you some gothic and skull dominated pieces of jewelry and accessories that will remain stylish well beyond the 31st of October. These pieces may be too much for most everyone’s confidence, but the eyes of envy will follow the one bold enough to put them on. What a better time to try out this emerging style to see if you have what it takes!
Beginning at the lighter ends of things, designer Tom Binns manages to weave the ever-popular skull into his blocky, pastel and overall chipper jewelry elements. These “Rainbow’s End” skull earrings are complimented by bright colors and angles above. Much more of a spring and refreshing vibe is taken from this lovely pair, but that is not to say that they can’t be worn all year long. After all, who can resist a petit lavender skull?

These next skulls featured may not resemble sugar and spring, but are just as light-hearted and they certainly seem like they’re smiling! All hand crocheted in white, these adorable bracelets by Dewey Decimal Crafts are truly one-of-a-kind. Available in bracelet, necklace and even loose on their own, these wearable craniums suggest comforting thoughts of grandma, while keeping you in style.
The bracelet pictured below is designed by Delfina Delettrez, and is spine-tingling. Due to my intense arachnophobia, I am rarely drawn to spider-influenced jewelry. The details, pure originality and craftsmanship of this eight-legged couture accessory quickly pushed my apprehensiveness away! That exceptional detail that truly sets Delfina apart on this one is the inclusion of pearls representing eggs that are being hatched as the mother spider crawls up your arm in silence.

If you’re looking for some of these styles closer to home, and living in Los Angeles, Kat Von D’s famous Wonderland Gallery is the perfect place to stop. Carrying clothing, books, home accessories, and more, you don’t only need to channel your trendy sweet tooth for all thing skulls to just the jewelry around your neck! For example, these candles by D & L would prove to be a showstopper to every guest that enters your home, but they’re so ornately carved that it may be hard to actually use them!

Pictured below is an almost un-wearable piece of jewelry, made by myself as part of an art show. The necklace consists of 108 unique solid silver skulls, with a select group of them containing birthstones in their eyes. The inspiration came from ancient Tibetan Female Buddhist paintings and sculptures. These Goddesses are often portrayed with necklaces of human heads and skulls adorned about their figures. Monks even wear hand-carved beads around their necks, much like Catholics do with prayer beads, and rub them, reciting mantras. Skulls are a way to acknowledge and remember our fleeting existence on this Earth, and above all, to be grateful for it! Happy Halloween!
