DO you want to learn how to think and get dressed like a stylist? Let me teach you!
Women ask me all the time how I go about coming up with unique outfits that still incorporate the new trends of the season. I have one tip that is seriously my secret weapon and I'm so excited to share it with you! It's a simple concept really and you're gonna kick yourself for not coming up with it sooner! So enough teasing! What is my #1 go to fashion tip for styling my outfits? I go through current magazines and tear out outfits that I like for that season and recreate them with whats in my closet. The best way to keep tabs on what's current for any given season is to get a few of your favorite magazines or catalogues from stores and pull tear sheets. I've made myself a folder for my looks. You can separate it however you'd like....by day looks, night looks or maybe you just throw it all in one book. Get some clear sleeves from your nearest office supply store to help preserve the pages. I usually switch them out every season to keep current on my looks! So when you do have a tear sheet with a look that you love and want to replicate how do you go about recreating it? Well, since you probably wont have the exact same pieces in ht epicure you need to first identify what it is about the outfit that you like. Is it the color combination, the way the outfit is layered, the cut of the clothing....what is it that catches your eye about this outfit? Once you identify that you can start pulling similar pieces from your closet. Remember it doesn't have to be an exact look so have fun with it! Often times some of the looks in magazines are so high fashion that they're hard to replicate. What do I do when this comes up? Believe it or not my of my favorite places to shop for unique pieces is at vintage or second hand shops! So many designers knock off vintage pieces that it's much cheaper and easier to get the look by searching for actual vintage clothing. If you've never tried it it's actually fun! I'll usually pull my tear sheets and bring them with me. Some of my most highly complimented looks have been ones i've put together from shopping second hand and vintage stores! I always go to the stores in the richer areas of town. Let me tell you the Goodwill near Hancock Park in LA is a Goldmine!! Whether you choose to go vintage or just pull stuff from your own closet give this tip a try! I promise you won't be disappointed!
