Coffee is not just a morning pick-me-up anymore, so don’t throw those used grinds away just yet. Over the years we have found many uses for used coffee grinds around the home and in the garden, but now Scientists have proven many beauty benefits of caffeine. Get ready to wake up more than just your brain.

Not only is coffee getting more attention for it’s antioxidant properties when used topically and orally, it’s also a known anti-inflammatory. I have found some amazingly easy and effective DIY at home remedies to shine, buff, and smooth your hair and body while giving yourself a little perk as it absorbs into your skin.

You can mix larger amounts of these recipes and store refrigerated in an air-tight container for up to six weeks. Remember, caffeine can dehydrate so be sure to drink plenty of water and moisturize after each treatment!

Diminish Cellulite

Caffeine is a popular ingredient in anti-cellulite creams, and being a diuretic, it removes some of the fluid from the fat beneath the skin, thus reducing the appearance of cellulite. This scrub, when used at least twice weekly may show some noticeable results in a bumpy backside and doubles as a great exfoliant.

Things you will need: 1/2 Cup of coffee grinds ( preferably used because they are already moist)

1/4 Cup of brown sugar

2 Tablespoons of olive or coconut oil

1 Newspaper

Plastic Wrap

How to do it: Place the newspaper on your bathroom floor, then mix the ingredients and slightly warm them in the microwave being careful not to overheat since it is about to go onto your skin (about 30 seconds). While standing on the newspaper, apply a thin layer to the cellulite area(s) and wrap plastic wrap around it. Leave on for fifteen minutes then hop in the shower, unwrap, and rinse off. It’s that easy!

Perk Up the Face

Caffeine constricts blood vessels to reduce redness, making it ideal for flushing and rosacea, but also decreases puffiness. Plus, recent studies have shown caffeine to prevent and repair sun damage. With a face scrub similar to the cellulite scrub, you can be on your way to a brighter, more “perky” complexion.

Things you will need:

1/2 Cup of FINELY ground coffee grinds. (Since this one is going on your face, you need the texture to be much more delicate, so send them through the grinder a time or two).

2 Tablespoons of olive or coconut oil

1tablespoon of honey for dry skin or lemon juice for oily skin

How to
do it
: Mix the ingredients in a bowl or container and apply directly to your face, leave on up to 10 minutes and rinse well.

Want to give it a Vitamin C Boost? Try adding the juice from half of an orange into the scrub while mixing, but you can only leave this one on for 2-3 minutes. This will give you an instant glow, it helps close pores, acts as a toner, astringent, and a great antioxidant.

Get Rid of Red and Puffy Eyes

This is the simplest one yet, all you need to do is add a bit of water to your already moist coffee grinds, spoon them into ice cube trays, and freeze! Once frozen, wrap one for each eye in an old cloth and place on your eyes until you have reached your desired results ( usually about 10 minutes).
