DIY Perfume, Face Serum, and Lip Balm for the Hot Summer Months

Summertime is here! It’s time for lots of fun adventures and activities. To keep yourself smelling fresh and your skin hydrated, it’s recommended to keep a few things on hand when you’re on-the-go. Here are a few recipes for a natural DIY lip balm, perfume, and face serum for you to take with you everywhere this summer!

DIY FACE SERUM

To keep your face hydrated on-the-go, this is a great recipe to carry around in a steel roller bottle. This will keep your face looking dewy and fresh!

INGREDIENTS

1oz glass dropper bottle and a glass and steel roller bottle for on-the-go

10 drops frankincense essential oil

10 drops Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil

8 drops manuka essential oil

8 drops spikenard essential oil

5 drops cedarwood essential oil

5 drops vitamin E oil

Fill the rest of the way with a carrier oil appropriate for your skin type.

SUGGESTED COMBINATIONS

Oily Skin: jojoba, pomegranate seed oil or rosehip

Dry or Mature Skin: avocado, apricot or argan

DIY LIP BALM

Lips can get chapped all-year-round and if you’re not drinking enough water, your skin and lips can end up drying out. Make sure you are drinking lots of water in these warm months and also giving your lips a little TLC by locking the moisture in!

INGREDIENTS

Lip balm containers

4 tbsp of coconut oil

3 tbsp shea butter

1 tbsp soy wax

1 tsp beeswax

1/2 tsp vitamin E oil

10 drops organic vanilla extract

10 drops of your favorite essential oil

Makes about 25 lip balms (5 gram containers)

Melt coconut oil, shea butter, soy wax, and beeswax together. Let cool for a couple minutes so mixture will not be very hot. Add in vitamin E oil, vanilla extract, and your essential oils. Use a medicine dropper to suck up and transfer mixture into the lip balm containers.

SUGGESTED OIL COMBINATIONS

Peppermint, orange, cardamom, spearmint, lime, Cinnamon bark, lemon and ginger, lavender and frankincense, and ocotea and grapefruit.

IMPORTANT NOTES: Citrus essential oils are phototoxic (though this recipe is heavily diluted). If you do use citrus you still may not want to go out in direct sunlight. Addtionally, the beeswax in the summertime helps to keep the lip balm from melting, though you still may not want to leave it in a pocket or hot car.

DIY PERFUME

To smell pretty wherever you go, you can create your own signature perfume, and no one else will smell as wonderful as you do! I recommend this combo, but you should choose scents that appeal to you!

INGREDIENTS

Stainless steel or glass perfume bottle

4 drops jasmine essential oil

5 drops Stress Away essential oil blend

5 drops magnesium oil

Fill the rest of the way with distilled water and shake before each use.

No need to sacrifice your signature smell or your impeccable dewy skin while you travel or even just for your on-the-go lifestyle. With these recipes you keep your skin and lips happy and healthy without breaking the bank. Enjoy!
