Interview with General Hospital's Kelly Thiebaud

Known for being David Guetta's video girl, Kelly Thiebaud is now "the bad girl of Daytime" as Dr. Britt Westbourne on the 50th season of General Hospital. (Photo courtesy of Kelly Thiebaud)

If you’re a fan of Viva Glam, you’re probably a big fan of fashion, beauty, and entertainment. You might even consider yourself a diehard fan of something. Maybe you own every album by The Rolling Stones, own too many Jimmy Choo heels (but still owe college loans), or have an obsession with Channing Tatum in Magic Mike and have used the excuse, “I just love the…acting” too many times.

Being a diehard fan implies dedication and diehard fans are taking over the entertainment industry. With sites such as Kickstarter, fans took the Veronica Mars Movie into their own hands and demanded a completion to the story. Soap operas have been on the decline ever since the 70s when more women entered the job market. Now with only four soaps remaining on broadcast television, diehard fans are the only things keeping shows like General Hospital on the air since they never release DVDs simply due to the quantity of episodes. But, since GH just celebrated 50 years, I’m sure they are going nowhere and are making the fans proud.

Newcomers are added to soaps quite frequently, but there is one in particular who is really turning heads with her unique look and her powerhouse character. Kelly Thiebaud, an actress formerly known for being David Guetta’s “video girl”, joined the cast in September 2012 to play Dr. Britt Westbourne on the famous soap. Within mere months, Thiebaud has already been given juicy storylines such as a love triangle and a potentially fake pregnancy. With all of the drama she's bringing to daytime, she just might make a few women call in sick.

Q&A with Kelly Thiebaud

General Hospital is celebrating 50 years. What's it like to be a part of such a legacy?

I feel very blessed to be on such an iconic show right when its celebrating 50 great years. It’s a special time for us right now and people are really supporting what we do.

You play Dr. Britt Westbourne on General Hospital. How are you enjoying your character?

I absolutely love my character and all her layers. [I’m] excited to see what else comes her way and what other juicy things she gets herself involved in. I get to play every time I go to "work". [There’s] nothing better.

Describe your overall experience being in four of David Guetta's videos.

Being in David Guetta’s videos is a highlight of my career. I loved every second from the first video to the last. It gave me the push to whole-heartedly pursue acting. It also gave me a broader fan base now that is worldwide.

How is your relationship with David Guetta today?

My relationship with David is great. We haven’t seen each other in years.  But if we did, we'd sit down over a glass of champagne and laugh over the years since we worked together.

How did your fan base change with the video opportunity?

The videos gave me access to parts of the world I might not have been able to reach ‘till further down the line. Now, people all over the world know my face and are interested in who I am. It also satisfied my desire to combine my two passions, acting and music.
