VIVA GLAM had the opportunity to attend Coachella 2017 in VIP style all the way! What fashion ‘hits and misses’ did we see during week one?
Our first stop was to the Smashbox X Funboy event on Friday afternoon. This was a casual, outdoor pool party that was full of fashion, festivities, and fun! Coachella fashion hits included long, Woodstock-inspired skirts and dresses, cute 90’s retro black shorts, ankle boots and tank tops, and fit bodies in cute, colorful bikinis!
Next, we attended the Velocity Black X 1OAK/ Up and Down Beach Club Event on Friday night. Fashion hits included sexy, body conscious, short dresses and slim high heels, military jackets, retro faded denim jackets with shoulder pads and accessories such as chokers, hand-weaved ethnic belts and handbags.
We did see some Coachella fashion misses here too, such as athletic shorts, ratty tennis shoes, and oversized sweatshirts. These outfits literally looked like you were doing laundry in the dorm basement.
Saturday on the fairgrounds, we noticed a vast improvement of Coachella fashion from last year. We were happy to see cute and colorful rompers, diaphanous slip dresses, cross body bags, and chunky, ethnic jewelry. Some misses included pasties on the nipple and Cosplay costumes that one would wear to Comic-con, rather than to a music festival. These included large, fuzzy animal heads and superhero costumes. Note to self: leave the Wonder Woman costume at home.
Overall, Coachella 2017 showed a great improvement over last year where it seemed only the celebrities made an effort to dress fashionably. Instead, Coachella was full of guests and music lovers who celebrated the spirit of the festival by reflecting their own personal style!
