Chinese Government Reduces Use of Animals for Cosmetic Testing

Could This Finally Be the Beginning of the End?

The Chinese government has recently taken a big step towards better animal welfare. The Chinese Food and Drug Administration previously required all imported cosmetics and some domestically created cosmetics to be tested on animals. Now, the Chinese FDA has waived this requirement on certain cosmetics. Hence, cosmetics that are considered “non-special use” will no longer be required to be tested on animals.

The Institute for In Vitro Sciences (IIVS) has been working directly with China with a grant from PETA. This collaboration has allowed a positive move forward to eventually end China’s required testing on animals for cosmetics.
