Have you ever wondered what it was like to be 450 pounds? Well, we caught up with our very own Candace Kita on the set of her new film, A Week in London.  In this light-hearted comedy, Candace stars opposite Denise Richards, Julia Faye West, and Mike Tyson as a 450-pound woman who loses weight to become the girl everyone envies.  We asked Candace about her experience on set and what it was like to transform into her character. Check it out in theaters via limited release starting April 27th.

Q&A with Candace Kita

VGM: Candace, tell us about your character in A Week in London.

Candace: A Week in London is a comedy similar to Scary Movie or Airplane.  It focuses on the life of London Logo, the newest “it” girl.  Her best friend is played by Denise Richards and I’m the girl they both love to hate. My character starts life as Dong Su who weighs 450 pounds. I underwent five hours of prosthetic/special effects makeup a day to become this character.  Dong Su loses weight on a reality show and becomes superstar, Kristy Kim.

VGM: Did others perceive you differently as a heavyset woman?

Candace: My first day on set, I was introduced to the cast and crew as Dong Su.  My character eventually loses most of her weight, but that day I was a full 450 pounds.  I think they assumed I was naturally heavy. They were a little shocked when they saw me later as myself.  The cast and crew were awesome and I didn’t feel they treated me differently whether I was large or small. But I think they were surprised to see me out of costume.  I’ve thoroughly enjoyed experiencing every second of it.
