There is good news for people who have social anxiety. New studies show that friendly bacteria in foods such as pickles, dark chocolate and miso soup can help ease anxiety for those who fear social situations such as meeting strangers, using the phone to make calls, parties and shopping.
‘It is likely that the probiotics in the fermented foods are favorably changing the environment in the gut, and changes in the gut in turn influence social anxiety,’ said the researchers from the University of Maryland and the College of William and Mary in Virginia.
