3 Ideas for New Year’s Resolutions Other Than Weight Loss

As 2017 winds down, it’s time to start making plans for the coming year. For many of us, this involves resolutions and setting goals for the new year. Setting New Year’s resolutions is a healthy way to look forward to the coming year with hope and optimism. You’re actively planning how you want the new year to be better and deciding how you’re going to achieve your goals.

But, if you’re tired of making the same generic resolutions, only to give up on them by January 2nd, it’s time to start doing things differently. Here are three ideas for resolutions that will make a real difference in the upcoming year.

1. Plan an Adventure

Having a trip planned for the coming year is a great way to have something to look forward to. The end of the year is an excellent time to organize your next vacation since you’re likely to have your family gathered together during the holidays. When making your plans, be sure to think about the kind of holiday you want rather than just the destination. Think about what activities you’d like to do and where you’d like to stay. Once you do this, you can start booking hotel rooms and flights. Since you’re doing this in advance, make sure you book refundable options and be prepared for last-minute changes. Once you have this squared away, you’ll have your next travel adventure planned for 2018.

2. Learn A New Art Form

Think about what you want to get better at in 2018. Resolve to master one new art form such as painting, drawing, or sewing by the end of the year. You could even try your hand at glass blowing, pottery, or collage making. Working with your hands can be incredibly therapeutic and calming. Rope in your friends and invite them over for monthly craft nights. With a whole year to learn and enjoy the skill, you’ll soon be on your way to mastering it by the end of 2018.

3. Start A Meditation Practice

Practitioners of meditation swear by its many health benefits, and there are scientific studies that back this up. Regular meditation can help reduce stress, lessen anxiety and improve your mood. It can enhance sensory perception, muscle control, and decision making. It may seem a bit daunting at first but is easy to do once you make it a part of your routine. Taking up meditation is an excellent way to make your mental well being a priority in 2018.

If there is some aspect of your life that you’re looking to change, a new year’s resolution is a great start. You’re more likely to achieve your goals if you focus on the reason why you made the resolution in the first place. So do whatever you need to do to become the best version of yourself and make 2018 your best year yet!
